who we are

Sam Harvey and Alleghany Meadows are both ceramic artists with extensive knowledge and passion for the ceramic arts. They have worked together on a range of projects since 1995 and began this gallery in July 2005.

Sam Harvey received his MFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University (2001) and BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute (1984). He has been an artist in residence at Sun Valley Center and Anderson Ranch Arts Center. He has taught and nationally and internationally, including at Anderson Ranch and in Nepal, Taiwan and Japan. He has shown nationally at such venues as Lill Street Arts Center, Chicago; Santa Fe Clay, Santa Fe; Trax Gallery, Berkeley,Ca.

Alleghany Meadows also received his M.F.A. from Alfred University (1999) and his BA from Pitzer College, Claremont, CA (1994). He apprenticed with Takashi Nakazato, Karatsu, Japan, received a Watson Foundation Fellowship for field study of potters in Nepal, and was an artist in residence at Anderson Ranch Arts Center. Alleghany has presented lectures and workshops at various venues around the country, including Penland School of Crafts, Mendocino Art Center, and Oregon College of Arts and Crafts. He has shown widely in such venues as Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts, Ashville; Baltimore Clayworks, Baltimore; Lill Street Gallery, Chicago; Chester Springs Studio, Chester Springs, PA; Santa Fe Clay, Santa Fe. He is the founder of Artstream Nomadic Gallery.

what we do

Harvey / Meadows Gallery specializes in contemporary ceramic art, prints and works on paper. We represent a range of artists, from masters of the 20th century to mid-career and emerging. We are also active in the resale of work by significant artists, including Peter Voulkos, Ken Ferguson, Betty Woodman and furniture by Sam Maloof. Our artists span the possibilities of the ceramic medium from sculptural and figurative to utilitarian and site specific installation. We also specialize in locating specific artist’s work or desired pieces for private, public and corporate collections.

Gift Giving

We make it very easy to give art as gifts. Whether for a close friend, a young couple or an entire corporate office, we can work within a range of budgets to arrange beautiful art pieces to be shipped directly to the recipients. Pieces can be from our current inventory or we can have custom pieces made by many of our artists.

Custom Dinnerware

A number of our artists are willing to work on specific commissions. Using contemporary functional dishes adds to the beauty of every meal. We can orchestrate custom work through one artist or a combination of different artists. A dinner plate by one artist may be complimented beautifully by serving dishes or salad plates by another. A custom wall cabinet display with 10 different artist’s cups makes for a beautiful wall piece that is great to use.

Wedding and Gift Registry

How nice would it be to receive unique hand made art pieces and dishes for wedding gifts? We work with the clients to plan either custom sets or work from our current inventory. We handle everything, and the client is the recipient of unique and lasting gifts, things which enhance their lives and that can truly become heirlooms.
