Val Cushing |

New York In 1956, Cushing earned his Master of Fine Arts degree at New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, where he spent the next 40 years building the ceramic art program into a major art center. He has exhibited, taught, and presented workshops and lectures in universities, schools, museums and galleries throughout North America, Europe and Japan. His trademark vessels have been featured in every major ceramics book published in the last 25 years. Cushingʼs work is included in the collections of the American Craft Museum, the Smithsonian Institution, the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the International Museum of Ceramic Art in Japan. His honors include grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Fulbright Foundation, a Fellow of the American Craft Council and of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, of which he is a founding member. Cushing is a full-time studio artist and continues to exhibit his work and to conduct occasional lectures and workshops
