Gerry Eskin

Studio Potter
Iowa and Colorado

Dr. Eskin is an adjunct professor of art and art history at the University of Iowa. His work is included in major collections, including the American Craft Museum, the Longhouse Foundation and the University of Iowa Museum of Art. He has served as chairman of the advisory board of National Council on Education in the Ceramic Arts, a board member of the American Craft Museum, and member of the advisory board of the University of Iowa Museum of Art. He is a founder and director of Information Resources, Inc., one of the worlds leading providers of marketing information and related software. Before pursuing the arts full-time Dr. Eskin taught Marketing and Marketing Research at Stanford University and the University of Iowa.

David McFadden, curator of the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, describes how Eskin’s series of “shaman urns are anthropomorphized. These funerary urns constructed as three-dimensional full figures, seated on a bench or stool, with solidly planted feet and buttressed arms, are almost Madonna-like -- regal, imposing, and self-assured. The development of these forms is yet another indication of Eskin’s ongoing investigation into ancient ceremonial ceramics.”
